‘When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to…….(Prov. 16:7).

Serenity and calmness in a man’s life are not the absence of trouble, but a demonstration of confidence in the ability of God to save and help in the midst of stormy event. In an ideal situation, there cannot be a prize giving moment without preceding season(s) of rigorous hard work; so it is that God will not throw His precious medal around your neck unless you’ve been adjudged qualified for it (Matthew 7:6).

Prophet Jonah went through the refining crucible of God inside a great fish for three days. It’s only God that can suddenly provide a fish of that size to swallow a whole man and keep him alive without digestion taking place. Therefore when next you are thinking of how God will do it, remember that with God, nothing is impossible – never leave God out of the equation (Lk. 1:37). How comfortable the man would be inside a fish talk less in the midst of an ocean is another episode entirely but Isaiah 43:2 became a reality in Jonah’s life.

Nineveh finally heard, received the timely message and instantly repented and turned to God (Jonah 3:5). Every man was born a sinner, but shall we continue in sin and expect grace of God to abound? (Rom. 6:1-2). A perfect storm of God’s fury upon the Ninevehites was averted and total calmness became their experience. No super-structure can be built on a poor foundation; otherwise collapse is inevitable. God’s enduring mercy is only possible for a truly repented soul.

You may not have the worldly stuffs, but you’re heavenly enriched when you have God in the inside of you. You must settle the issue of disobedience to God’s simple instructions; otherwise calmness and peace will be elusive. Anti- depressants cannot provide this calmness, therapies are waste of resources, but Jesus’ way is the only escape route (Matthew 11:28-30).

Jonah wasn’t happy that the nation was saved from impending doom from God as was depicted in his discussion with the Lord (Jonah 4:1-4), but Nineveh made her way right before God and was saved. It doesn’t matter how far you’ve gone away from Him, if only you can make a U-turn back to Him, He will forgive ‘all’ and welcome you back home.
