“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy; when I fall, I shall arise…….” (Micah 7:8).
I am pitching this week’s write up at the tent of so many carriers of God’s glory that have given up trying again because of past failures and disappointments. The truth of the matter is that no one is born a victor because everyone at one time or the other has bumped it but for grace we should have been condemned.
Apostle Peter was a man who ‘speaks before thinking’ and at a stage he boasted of his uncompromising allegiance to his Master even to death but when testing time came, he failed woefully (Matthew 26:69-75). There’s no strong man without the backing of a strong God (Psalm 127:1). Peter realising his failure swiftly ran to God for repentance – He made a +ve U-Turn; unlike his other colleague (Apostle Judas) in Matthew 27:5.
The road to greatness is littered with a lot of bumps and it is meant to discourage the faint-hearted one from moving forward. Whether you’re in business of soul winning or secular one, except you’re determined to keep pursuing even when fainting, final victory may be elusive (Judges 8:4; II Tim. 2:5). Successful icons today have their stories of past misses, losses and catalogue of failures; but when they refused to abandon the task, they learnt how to avoid errors and made it to the top eventually.
Crooked stick can still draw a straight line! Even though your life may be shrouded with troubles and failures, what you make out of it is what count at the end of the day. We have seen a recipient of 3rd class degree rising up to become a Nobel Laureate in our contemporary time and a condemned criminal turning out to be a world evangelist. The defining factor is self-determination and partnership with Jesus Christ.
Jesus picked up illiterate Apostles and made them fishers of men. He made Peter’s futile effort to yield abundance with a first time contact with Him. He re-directed the knowledge of an erudite law scholar (Paul) to His advantage to the extent that someone on his way to hell had a glorious ending. You have a glorious future ahead of you; therefore arise and continue the race as you keep looking unto Jesus for a glorious ending.
